Rebecca Griffin: 2024 Writing Challenge Winner

Writing Challenge Winner Rebecca Griffin

Rebecca Griffin, one of our 2024 writing challenge winners, recently sat down with me to talk about her writing journey and what her writer’s life has been able to do for her. It turned out to be an incredible story of determination and grit that I think you’ll find very inspiring!

When you listen in now, you’ll learn:

  • How Rebecca’s work writing grants for the charitable organizations she supports gave her early signs that she had writing talent
  • The huge twist that hit her life 2015, when a “routine” knee surgery ended with her in a medical coma, hospitalized for four months, largely paralyzed from the neck down, and bedridden
  • How still bedridden, with limited movement in her arms, she started writing as she knew traditional “go to work” jobs were just not going to work for her anymore
  • What happened when AWAI came into her life…
  • How she turned her early, small jobs into bigger and bigger projects and even retainer deals
  • The fun pivot from being surrounded by skeptics to being surrounded by support, as her new writing income won over her family and erased their doubts that writing could provide for them
  • What she’s doing now in her writing life — and what she plans to do — now that she has the freedom to choose her projects and go after only clients she’d like to support

All in all, Rebecca credits writing with being a “lifesaver” for her and her family, giving her a sense of purpose and worth, allowing her to regain independence and options – and of course, earn much needed income from home, on her own schedule.
